Dipl.-Ing. Karl Reiner studied spatial planning at the University of Technology in Vienna. During his studies he did an apprenticeship as a bookseller and worked in a bookshop dealing with development policy (suedwind-buchwelt.at).

Afterwards he was employed as a research assistant at the Federal Institute for Mountain Farmers in Vienna for one year and worked as a self-employed planner and consultant for two years.

Since 1988 he has been working (until 1997 as an employee, then as a self-employed partner) for ÖAR GmbH as a regional and tourism consultant (www.oear.at). 

The main areas of consultancy are: Location development, inter-municipal cooperation, sustainable tourism development, mobility. The consulting spectrum includes both technical and process consulting and moderation.

Further areas of expertise: Auditor for sustainability certificates in tourism (Austrian Eco-label for hotels and travel offers, GreenGlobe), international project management and organisation of professional events as well as professional excursions.

Karl Reiner is co-founder of ECOTRANS - Network Sustainable Tourism in Europe and has been involved in many EU projects on sustainable tourism development in Europe. (www.ecotrans.de).
