Dr Theres Winter studied Tourism Management B.A. at the University of Applied Sciences in Wilhelmshaven and MSc International Tourism Management at Sheffield Hallam University (UK). After completing her studies in 2010, she worked for the TUI group as project manager and business transformation consultant with a key focus on sustainability in aviation. She, for example, was responsible for the implementation of an ISO-14001 certified environmental management system at the German TUI airline TUIfly. In 2015, she returned to academia and since then she has taught on a range of modules on undergraduate and postgraduate tourism programs at Sheffield Hallam University and the University of Bedfordshire. She was also course leader for the undergraduate tourism courses in Bedfordshire. In 2019, she completed her PhD with the title “Poverty and Inequality: Exploring the role of Tourism in Brazil’s Northeast”. Her current research and publications focus on the relationship between tourism, multidimensional poverty and inequality, power relations in tourism and visual methodologies.
